Are you guilty of filling all the white spaces in your weekly calendar?
It’s a well known fact that anyone training for an endurance sport always wishes that there were more hours in the day. Early starts, lunch time sessions and late nights to fit in all your training around work and family commitments are the norm, but failing to have any “white space” in your calendar could be what’s stalling your progress right now. Most of us find it very hard to do nothing, it’s just how we’re programmed. Yes you might have a ‘rest day’ scheduled into your week but you then decide it’d be nice to catch up with a friend and you go for a 2 hour walk. It’s very easy for us to fill the white space with things we consider not to be training; walking, climbing, hiking etc but this IS classed as training load and if you’re needing to rest or get over an injury this is going to be detrimental.
