This week we continue our look at the life and times of famed Reconquista-era knight and mercenary Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar, known to posterity by the epithet El Cid. This week we will discuss the Christian response to the collapse of the Caliphate, the rise of the Almoravids, and begin to explore more deeply El Cid’s life and deeds, insofar as we know of them, and will attempt to sift apart truth from legend.
