When life is great and things are going well, oftentimes we couldn't be bothered if God was real or not. You know I'm just gonna do me and if things fall apart then maybe I'll use Him as a last resort. Or maybe we're faithful, but nothing in our lives is going the way we want it to. We look at the people that couldn't care less about God, they do what they want and they seem successful and happier even without God. Why should I bother with God if I'm happy?
