Deep dives
A Dream Populated by More-Than-Human Species
In this dream space, artist and designer S Devlin envisions a world where the population is made up of endangered species. Inspired by her drawings of endangered London wildlife, Devlin describes dreaming about animals and feeling a sense of grief for not dreaming about them before. The dream world she creates includes over 60 types of moth, 120 types of butterfly, and 592 types of bird, with a shared language between humans and these species.
A Fusion of Sublime Ornaments and Fractal Patterns
Devlin discusses the connection between gothic architecture and fractal patterns found in nature, highlighting the beauty and intricacy in repeating patterns. She describes perceiving similarities between the veins in her hand and the veins within a leaf, and the scales on her skin and the scales on a lizard's skin. In this dream space, humans perceive the interconnectedness and continuity of form in all living things.
Deconstructing Individuality and Embracing Interbeing
Devlin emphasizes the need to deconstruct the belief in individuality and separation, as well as the story of scarcity that society has perpetuated. She envisions a world where humans recognize themselves as part of the biosphere, and where AI algorithms are seen as extensions of the intelligence already present in the world. In this space, humans dismantle fear and rewrite the story of interconnection and abundance, perceiving time as a spiraling and connected entity.
