Deep dives
Tesla rolls out FSD beta version 12.1 to more employees
Tesla has expanded the rollout of Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta version 12.1 to over 15,000 personally owned employee vehicles, marking a significant expansion compared to the previous version. Elon Musk mentioned that version 12 is already on many cars, but the new architecture requires further testing. The update has proven to work well in California, but additional training is needed for areas with heavy precipitation. With more training data and continuous improvement of the N10 neural networks, Tesla aims to enhance the performance of version 12 in various regions.
Strong vehicle numbers reported in China
Tesla experienced consistently strong insured vehicle numbers in China, with 18,500 insured vehicles registered in the week of December 18th through the 24th. This figure represents the second highest weekly total throughout the year and brings the total for the quarter to 156,700 vehicles, a remarkable increase compared to the previous quarters. The numbers indicate an upward growth trend, suggesting a potential quarter-over-quarter increase of 10% and a record-breaking performance for Tesla. The inventory of vehicles provides ample supply for the expected high level of production.
Anticipating Tesla's Q4 delivery and production report
Expectations are high for Tesla's upcoming Q4 delivery and production report. Based on production estimates and insights from industry analysts, it is projected that Tesla may achieve a record-breaking production level of around 509,000 vehicles in the quarter. This would represent an 18% increase quarter-over-quarter and a 16% increase year-over-year. Analysts anticipate delivery numbers slightly above Tesla's original guidance of 1.8 million vehicles for the year. The availability of inventory suggests that Tesla can meet or even exceed these production and delivery targets.
