In our household, we established clear expectations and boundaries with our kids regarding technology and personal spaces. Instead of giving them ownership of a phone or a room, we emphasized that these were privileges we provided them with. This approach allowed us to maintain a level of access and inspection if needed, without the sense of invasion. We also managed their media intake during their formative years by controlling what they watched and exposing them to positive influences. By homeschooling, we could guide their learning and shield them from negative influences in traditional school settings. Trust, communication, and teaching them about objective right and wrong were also essential factors in raising responsible and honest kids.
Teaching Independence and Problem-Solving
As parents, we encouraged our kids to be independent and capable of thinking through challenges. We provided them with the tools and guidance to solve problems on their own. For instance, when our daughter faced a bullying situation, we taught her self-defense and explained the importance of standing up for herself. We also prioritized teaching life skills, such as shooting, to empower our daughters and ensure their safety. By instilling a sense of responsibility and independence, we aimed to raise strong individuals who could handle tough situations.
Role Modeling and Treating Others Right
We recognized the significance of role modeling and the impact it has on our children. Our kids learned about respectful relationships through observing how we treated each other as a couple. We emphasized treating their mother with love, dignity, and respect, setting an example of how they should be treated by future partners. We also encouraged them to grow into confident adults by affirming their value and potential, which instilled a strong sense of self-worth. Our daughter's observation of our relationship and focus on building their own character and integrity helped shape them into compassionate and deserving individuals.
