Ireland has been an independent country for just over one hundred years now and in that time perhaps we as a nation have looked to both the US and the UK in terms of how to structure and develop our society. Some might say, that in doing so, we have lost a bit of our own cultural identity and so the question is what does it truly mean to be Irish?
Mollie, our guest today, teaches the Irish language online and has over 100k followers on Instagram. We talk about why the Irish language is such a dividing topic in Ireland, it’s huge cultural significance and whether or not it might be the key to unlocking the true Irish identity.
Really hope you enjoy listening to this conversation. It’s a topic close to my heart and it was really great to hear Mollie’s passion for the language. If you’d like to learn a little bit of the Irish language, whether you’re starting from zero or already have a base, I’d really recommend following Mollie to get back into the swing of seeing and hearing words as gaeilge, in Irish.
