One of the truly heroic early colonial Particular Baptists who deserves recognition is Obadiah Holmes. He was born about 1607 in a rural area just south of Manchester in Northern England and was the second son in a family of eight or nine children. He wasn’t baptized until the age of 3, which is unusual of course. Perhaps he was ill as an infant or there was not a proper local clergyman to perform the ceremony. His parents were Robert and Catherine Holmes and his father was a farmer who somehow managed to send three of his sons to Oxford.
