In 'Mere Christianity', C.S. Lewis argues for the existence of God and defends Christian theology. The book is divided into four parts: the first argues for the existence of God based on the 'law of human nature'; the second defends Christian theology, including the 'Liar, lunatic, or Lord' trilemma regarding Jesus Christ; the third explores Christian ethics, including the cardinal and theological virtues; and the fourth discusses the Christian conception of God, particularly the Holy Trinity. Lewis also addresses topics such as free will, morality, sexual ethics, and the institution of marriage. The book is known for its clear and logical presentation of Christian apologetics and has been praised for its straightforward and humorous writing style[1][2][4].
Set in 19th-century Russia, 'The Brothers Karamazov' is a novel that delves into the lives of the Karamazov family, focusing on the three brothers—Dmitri, Ivan, and Alyosha—and their complex relationships with their father, Fyodor Pavlovich Karamazov. The novel is a murder mystery, a courtroom drama, and an exploration of erotic rivalry, faith, doubt, and reason. It examines the human psyche, moral dilemmas, and the search for meaning in a world fraught with suffering and uncertainty. The story revolves around the murder of Fyodor Pavlovich and the subsequent trial of Dmitri, accused of the crime, while exploring deeper themes of Russian life, social and spiritual striving, and the clash between faith and reason[2][5][4].
The book explores how the ideas 'what doesn’t kill you makes you weaker,' 'always trust your feelings,' and 'life is a battle between good people and evil people' have become embedded in American culture. These 'Great Untruths' contradict basic psychological principles and ancient wisdom, leading to a culture of safetyism that interferes with young people’s social, emotional, and intellectual development. The authors investigate various social trends, including fearful parenting, the decline of unsupervised play, and the impact of social media, as well as changes on college campuses and the broader context of political polarization in America.
In 'Life After Google,' George Gilder argues that the current dominance of Google and big data is coming to an end due to economic and security crises. He explains how Silicon Valley's reliance on an 'aggregate and advertise' model strangles entrepreneurship and compromises security. Gilder proposes that the future lies in the 'cryptocosm'—a new architecture based on blockchain and its derivatives, enabling secure global payments and transforming the economy and the Internet. The book discusses the potential of blockchain to restore privacy and security online and predicts a 'great unbundling' that will disperse computer power and commerce, transforming the Internet and the economy[1][2][4].
I sat down with Matt Fradd, host of “Pints With Aquinas,” to explore the enduring power of Christian faith, the cultural crisis facing the West, and the vital role of fathers in navigating these turbulent times. As a Catholic convert, Matt examines the perceived tension between reason and faith in our culture—and explains why that conflict is an illusion. We dive into the significance of Holy Week, the problem of evil, and the reality of spiritual warfare. Matt critiques a culture adrift and makes a passionate case that the only path forward is one rooted in spiritual clarity and moral conviction.
