Ernst Zürcher est ingénieur forestier. Il est professeur émérite en Sciences du Bois à la Haute école spécialisée bernoise (site de Bienne). Il a également été chargé de cours à l’École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Science et Génie des Matériaux). Il poursuit ses recherches sur les arbres et le bois, en particulier leur chronobiologie et leurs potentiels de séquestration de carbone. Il est l'auteur du livre «Les Arbres, entre Visible et Invisible» (Actes Sud 2016).
