Deep dives
Marita's Passion for Robotics
Marita was always fascinated by engineering and robotics, even though her mother wanted her to become a doctor. While attending university, Marita started Robo-girls, an organization aimed at encouraging girls to pursue engineering and robotics. Initially facing financial difficulties, Marita's work gained recognition, and Robo-girls expanded worldwide.
Marita's Impact and Achievements
Marita's dedication and hard work paid off when she was named Young Australian of the Year. Inspired by meeting Julia Gillard, Australia's first female prime minister, Marita went on to found Orbot, a company that develops robots to assist people with disabilities. Both Robo-girls and Orbot have received numerous awards, and Marita herself has been recognized as one of the top 50 women in tech and the youngest member of the Order of Australia.
When Marita was little, she thought robots could change the world, or at least do the dishes for her! But not many other girls thought the same. So, Marita started Robogals, a club to show girls they could work in robotics when they grew up. It started a global revolution.
