Social Psychology for People in a Hurry with Patrick Natili
Patrick Natili is a psychology student and 4-year scholar-athlete (cheerleading) at Florida Gulf Coast University who will soon pursue his master's degree. He also happens to be my best friend and the smartest guy I know (by far).
We broke out the organic elderflower apple sparkling sake wine and went to town on a wide range of psychology topics, among other things, that most intrigue us.
Our talking points include:
- How to solve for social interactions the way you would solve a math problem (mathematics of sociability)
- How to be friends with anyone
- Suicide
- Affluenza
- Is the search for meaning a meaningless search?
- Instagram/social media behavior types
- Saturated stimuli
- Upward and downward comparisions
- Screen time limits
- Trigger words and sentence framing
- How most eating is sensation-seeking and we don't need to eat nearly as much as we do
- Is moderation for the weak or is it a crucial component of life?
- Self-serving biases
- Love as a path
- Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs
- Cognitive dissonance
