Cultivating Contentment, Resilience, and Wisdom in the Digital Age
Dan Kimball
Jay Kim
In *Analog Christian*, Jay Y. Kim explores how the digital age affects Christian discipleship. He argues that the digital age inclines us towards discontentment, fragility, and foolishness, and provides a theological basis for living in creative resistance to these forces. The book is organized around the fruits of the Spirit, showing how each fruit helps heal from the toxic mindsets and behaviors cultivated by the digital world. Kim offers practical advice and real-world examples on how Christians can cultivate contentment, resilience, and wisdom to thrive in the current digital landscape.
The Problem of Pain
C.S. Lewis
In 'The Problem of Pain', C.S. Lewis addresses the age-old question of how a good and all-powerful God can permit pain and suffering. Lewis argues that human suffering is a consequence of the existence of evil and free will, and that God uses suffering as a tool to draw us nearer to Him. He categorizes pain as both physical and emotional, serving as a warning signal that alerts us to potential harm and compels us to make necessary changes. Lewis also discusses the Fall of Man and how it led to chaos and disaster, emphasizing that God's goodness is not negated by suffering but rather evidenced through His merciful intervention. The book concludes by reassuring that God's wisdom is infinitely superior to ours and that pain eventually leads us back to a loving relationship with our Creator[2][3][4].
Joy is not an accident. It's a fruit of the Spirit that grows from attention, action, and cultivation. In contrast much of our online lives are lived passively comparing ourselves to others without even thinking about it. Algorithms are designed to keep us longing for what we don’t have, by showing us lives just out of reach. This is an upward envy that creates a downward disdain and erodes joy. But God life with God gives us the good work of Joy. Joy is deep, personal, and often tied to the relationships that reflect God’s love and goodness.
