Deep dives
Zeus, the King of the Gods
Zeus is the top god on Mount Olympus and the reason why the Olympians overthrew the Titans. He was protected from his father Cronus by having his mother Rhea trick him with a rock, allowing Zeus to grow up on a remote island. Zeus later challenged Cronus, freed his siblings from their father's stomach, and became the king of the gods. However, Zeus had a reputation for getting into trouble and having affairs with mortals and goddesses, resulting in numerous children.
Hera, the Jealous Queen
Hera, the queen of the gods, was often portrayed as jealous and vengeful. She was tricked into marrying Zeus and forced to endure his infidelities. Hera had the power to punish those who crossed her, such as taking away Echo's voice. Despite her negative characteristics, Hera was also clever and had a deep love for animals, particularly peacocks. She was considered one of the most beautiful goddesses, second only to Aphrodite.
Hephaestus, the Skilled Blacksmith
Hephaestus, the god of fire and blacksmithing, played a vital role in creating weapons for the gods. He was banished from Mount Olympus but eventually returned. Hephaestus was married to Aphrodite, although she had no love for him. Despite his unlucky love life, Hephaestus had a loyal friend in Dionysus, the god of wine. He was also known for his creation of magical animals and weapons.
