Good vs. Bad Science: Keto Hype, Cancer Research, & Fighting Misinformation · Kevin Bass, MS · #138
Kevin Bass is unafraid to publicly call out those in the health & nutrition community he deems irresponsible...perhaps even dangerous.
Kevin states: “Bad science will hurt people”.
Passionate about truly helping people, his mission is to stop misinformation from spreading.
Albeit a controversial figure in the ketogenic diet community, we’ve found that Kevin isn’t as “anti-keto” as some would say. He’s an MD/PhD student whose thesis research actually focuses on the ketogenic diet and cancer. He’s acutely aware of the positive, neutral, & negative research, and does his best to bring a balanced perspective backed by published science.
In this episode, Geoff & Kevin discuss:
- What about keto is overhyped & what is actually exciting? For example, is it curing diabetes or just putting it into remission? Does it have the potential to treat cancer?
- Sensationalism vs. pragmatism: How can we create better science for the public? How can we determine who is a legitimate science-based health expert and who is not?
- Kevin’s own personal health journey, nutrition protocols, challenges faced in medical school, & what motivates him.
