Ideas Have Consequences America's Christian Roots, Communism, & the Polish Resistance | Lawrence W. Reed
Can a free society survive when its people lose the character required to sustain freedom? And what happens when a nation forgets the very ideas that made it free in the first place?
Economist and historian Lawrence W. Reed joins us to explore the ideas that shaped the United States, the worldview behind Marxism and socialism, and why personal character may be the most important defense of liberty.
Drawing from his book Born of Ideas, Reed traces the Christian convictions behind the American founding, from the Mayflower Compact to the Bill of Rights, and explores how the Protestant Reformation shaped ideas about God-given rights, limited government, and resistance to tyranny.
Reed also takes us behind the Iron Curtain, sharing his firsthand experience supporting Poland’s resistance movement during the Cold War and witnessing the realities of communism.
We close by examining Marxism and socialism as competing worldviews and asking what they get wrong about human nature, responsibility, envy, and freedom. Ultimately, Reed argues that liberty cannot survive without character, and rebuilding a free society starts with individuals, families, and churches. If we want to bless our nation, we need to disciple our nation.
