Episode notes
Philip Deng Turned Grant Frustration Into Grantable
- Philip Deng built Grantable after 15 years in nonprofits, including founding a public market and later freelancing as a grant writer.
- His repeated frustration with time-consuming applications led him to turn personal boilerplate systems into software.
AI Extends The Grant Writer’s Boilerplate
- AI-assisted grant writing extends the same pattern-recognition process behind spreadsheets, boilerplates, and reusable templates.
- Large language models recognize recurring proposal structures and replicate them with software rather than human judgment.
Treat AI Fear As A Useful Warning
- Fear of AI is rational because systems can appear intelligent while rapidly gaining access to deeply networked personal and professional lives.
- Philip recommends balancing caution with curiosity instead of either blindly celebrating AI or ignoring it.
