The one thing that is accomplished is more stress and tension in the relationship. Life already has claimed that spot.

Instead of clinging with a death grip, release that which controls you.

Here is where you learn to love with your hands, palms up instead of clenched fists.

Clinching stimulates only what you can see and only what you feel. It discounts your spouse's needs and wants. That's not a partnership.

Serve with palms open. This keeps your focus on what you can control and turns the focus to who you serve. It also helps to minimize the selfishness tendency we have as human beings.
Ask one question. "What can I do for you today?" Don't be tempted to fill in or prep with your thoughts. Ask the question and wait for the answer.
See the heart. When we care, we can judge and criticize more often thinking that we are helping. Be careful not to point out his/her mistakes or shortcomings. See his heart. Where is he/she trying to make a difference? Point out what you want to see more of. Let the mistakes fall away.
