Mastermind Parenting Podcast 221: Lying - Why We Hate It and What To Do About It
Lying and its development in children is natural. Listen today and hear a scenario about an eight-year-old boy who was lying and refusing to take responsibility for his mistakes. Little kids lie as a normal part of their development, typically to avoid getting into trouble or because of what I call their “magical thinking brain.” Older kids lie when it doesn't feel safe to tell the truth, which can be caused by feeling overwhelmed, insecure, or jealous. To handle lying in children, it is important to remember to connect before correcting and to remember that all behavior is communication.
