Deep dives
New Variant for Model S and Model X
Tesla has introduced a new variant for the Model S and Model X. The standard range Model S starts at $78,500 and offers 320 miles of range, with an acceleration of 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds. The standard range Model X starts at $88,500 and provides 269 miles of range, with an acceleration of 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. Delivery times are expected in September to October.
Cattle Reveals Fast Charging LFP Battery
Tesla supplier CATL has developed an LFP battery that can charge up to 250 miles in just 10 minutes. The battery is expected to have a range of 400 kilometers (250 miles) and is scheduled for mass production at the end of this year. It is anticipated to significantly enhance EV charging speeds and could be used by Tesla in future models.
Quirky Alarm Feature in Tesla
A Tesla owner camping in Montreal discovered a quirky feature of the car's alarm system. When unlocking the car from the inside, a classical musical alarm was triggered at full volume, causing confusion and amusement. Tesla enthusiasts should be aware of this unique alarm feature.
Use Shortcut for External Fart Noise
Tesla owners can now add a shortcut to the iPhone app to use the external fart noise feature without activating Sentry Mode. This allows for a fun gag without the need for continuous mode activation.
Gen 3 Tesla with 250-300 miles of range and affordable price to disrupt ICE vehicles
The Gen 3 Tesla is expected to have a range of 250 to 300 miles and a base price of $25,000 to $30,000. It will also have advanced safety features and the option for FSD (Full Self-Driving). The ability of the Gen 3 Tesla to recharge 90% of the battery within 10 minutes through supercharging is seen as a game-changer that eliminates arguments against electric vehicles and poses a significant challenge to ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) vehicles.
Tesla sets up local operations team to bring FSD to China
Tesla is setting up a local operations team in China consisting of around 20 people to bring Full Self-Driving (FSD) capabilities to the Chinese market. These employees will be trained by Tesla engineers from the US who are already present in China. Tesla is also creating a data labeling team in China to train the FSD algorithm and addressing concerns over data handling and storage by opening data centers in the country. The next step is for Tesla to apply for a temporary license to test FSD in Shanghai before gaining full approval.
Tesla has introduced a new variant for the Model S and Model X, but is it going to boost sales on those cars? Plus: yet more Project Highland rumors suggest the launch of the revamped Model 3 is imminent (at least in China), one of Tesla’s major battery suppliers has a new cell that can recharge exceptionally quickly, and more!
