Reza Sanai had a great start to his career as a cardiologist but eventually became dissatisfied with his role. He saw 20 patients per day but realized that about 40 percent of them didn’t need to be in his office. He tried an experiment with a large primary care practice --offering instant access to his expertise. Results were astonishing: ER visits dropped to almost zero and referrals to specialists fell by more than 40 percent.
