Data product leaders are invited to join a community focused on designing more human-centered machine learning, AI, and analytic solutions. The goal is to connect leaders who share the vision of creating value through human-centered and product-oriented approaches. The community seeks to unite individuals seeking to enhance the way solutions are built and delivered.
The event highlighted challenges in data product management and design within the enterprise data science and analytics space. Presentations primarily emphasized technology stacks, overlooking the importance of people and culture in driving successful data products. Discussions tended to delve into technical aspects rather than focusing on the product's value and human-centered approach.
The concept of data products encompasses analytical and reporting applications, UI-free invisible solutions like recommendation engines, and bundled data sets sold or shared internally. Speakers at the conference offered varied definitions, highlighting a lack of consistency but emphasized the importance of delivering valuable solutions that users are willing to pay for or exchange something of value to use.
The Data Product Leadership Community, set to launch in August 2023, aims to address pressing questions and challenges in data product management. The community will facilitate discussions on best practices, the role of design and user experience, and strategies for creating valuable and usable data products. With a focus on collaboration and shared learning, the community endeavors to cultivate expertise and drive innovation in the data product landscape.
Today I’m wrapping up my observations from the CDOIQ Symposium and sharing what’s new in the world of data. I was only able to attend a handful of sessions, but they were primarily ones tied to the topic of data products, which, of course, brings us to “What’s a data product?” During this episode, I cover some of what I’ve been hearing about the definition of this word, and I also share my revised v2 definition. I also walk through some of the questions that CDOs and fellow attendees were asking at the sessions I went to and a few reactions to those questions. Finally, I announce an exciting development on the launch of the Data Product Leadership Community.
