3. Reflections on Motherhood & Child Loss with My Mom Amie
Obvious trigger warning: Child loss
Happy Mother's Month❤️ I wanted to celebrate by bringing on my own mother, Amie (Schwartz) Drahos.
When my mother became pregnant with her second child after me, she was terrified to find out what the sex of the baby is.
Why? Because she had an unshakeable inner knowing that if it turned out to be a boy, he would die before the age of 5.
Plagued by the fear that people would think she's crazy and lock her in a mental institute if she revealed this, she never told a soul until after what she intuited came out to be true.
We chat about her experience with this and my experience as a 2 year old, along with:
- How she ended up deciding to have children despite not wanting to for a long time
- What she would say to someone who's on the fence about whether or not to have children
- Expectations she had of herself as a mother and how they matched up to reality
- How becoming a mother changed her
- How my sister and I are so different, and how she parented us differently based on our personalities
- and more!
If you've ever had a similar experience of having a strong intuitive knowing about the death of a child but being scared to tell anyone about it, we'd love to hear from you! My mom has NEVER met anyone else who had this experience. DM me on IG @dana.drahos or email me dana@danadrahos.com:)
