Deep dives
Origins of Modern Israel
The history of modern Israel begins with the British mandate and the rise of anti-Semitism in the late 19th century. A revival known as the Second Great Awakening led to the belief among Christians that the Jews needed to return to their homeland in Israel for biblical prophecies to be fulfilled. Christians began encouraging Jews to consider settling in Israel. Meanwhile, Jews started buying land and establishing small farming communities in Palestine. After World War I, the British controlled the land and planned to give a significant portion to the Jews. However, political considerations and the discovery of oil in Saudi Arabia led to the division of the land. The PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization) and its origins in anti-Semitism and the Muslim Brotherhood were also discussed.
The Rise of Wahhabism and Muslim Brotherhood
The ideology of Wahhabism, which follows a strict interpretation of the Quran and advocates for violence against non-Muslims, gained prominence after oil was discovered in Saudi Arabia. The rise of Wahhabism had a significant impact on the Middle East and Muslim communities worldwide. The Muslim Brotherhood, founded in 1928, embraced the two-step plan of infiltrating countries as peaceful Muslims and then establishing political and militant dominance. The Muslim Brotherhood sought to fulfill their agenda by overthrowing leaders, deceiving nations, and exporting their ideology through oil wealth. Their influence and violence persist to this day.
Conflicts and Wars Involving Israel
Israel's history after its establishment in 1948 has been marked by numerous conflicts and wars. Arab nations launched attacks against Israel in the hope of wiping out the newly formed nation. These conflicts included the 1948 Israeli-Arab war, the 1967 Six-Day War, and the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Despite surviving these wars, Israel faced ongoing threats and attacks from terrorist organizations like the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Hamas. Attempts at peace, such as the Camp David Accords, were short-lived and often met with violence from extremist groups.
The Plight of the Palestinian People
The establishment of Israel in 1948 led to the displacement and suffering of many Palestinians. The conflict between Israelis and Palestinians has resulted in a complex and ongoing political and humanitarian crisis. The podcast touched on the origins of the Palestinian people, their struggles, and the challenges they face in their quest for self-determination and statehood. The history and plight of the Palestinian people is a crucial aspect of understanding the larger Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
How did Israel get to where it is today? Do Israeli's have a rightful claim to the land, or does it actually belong to the Palestinians? And is the conflict REALLY about land after all? We can learn a lot about the history of ancient Israel by reading the Bible and studying archaeology, but what else should concerned citizens know about modern-day Israel and the rise of antisemitism since that time?
As promised, we're using the first podcast episode of 2024 to explore the history of modern-day Israel. Just a few weeks ago, nationally known speaker, best-selling author, and historian Bill Federer (founder of The American Minute) joined us to breakdown the TRUE history of Christmas. But this week he's back to discuss modern Israel's extensive origin story with Frank. During the show, Frank and Bill will answer questions like:
How did the state of modern Israel begin?
What archaeological finds corroborate Israel's long substantiated claim to the land?
Was there a state of Palestine before 1948?
How has the discovery of oil fueled the rise of antisemitism?
Why is every land for peace deal rejected? And is this dispute really about land?
Believe it or not, Frank and Bill only begin the discussion in this podcast episode, so be sure to check out the upcoming midweek podcast episode this Tuesday to look even further into Israel and Palestine's past, present, and ongoing conflict. There's so much left to unpack and you have to stay tuned for the conclusion of this historical break down from a true expert!
