Emerging Senate Bill Aims to Boost AI Job Pipeline
A new bipartisan Senate bill proposed by Senators Gary Peters and Eric Schmidt aims to enhance the U.S. pipeline for jobs in artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies through the development of a workforce framework by NIST. The AI and Critical Technology Workforce Framework Act seeks to build upon NIST's existing initiative for cybersecurity education, focusing on roles in AI to help employers strengthen their cyber workforces.
Government Accountability Office Breach Exposes Data
The Government Accountability Office faced a breach through a contractor, CGI Federal, leading to the compromise of data of around 6,600 individuals, including current and former GAO employees and companies associated with GAO. This breach occurred due to exploitation of a vulnerability in the Atlassian Confluence Workforce Collaboration Tool, post a warning by SZA and the FBI about active exploitation post-patch.
NSA Officials Address Chinese Cyber Operations on Critical Infrastructure
NSA officials Rob Joyce and Morgan Adempsky discussed how China is pre-positioning on U.S. critical infrastructure, aiming to disrupt operations during conflicts, which differs from espionage motives. Highlighting efforts to raise awareness and collaborate against these threats, they stress the importance of defending against Chinese operations targeting critical infrastructure to ensure mission readiness.
NSA's Shift towards More Proactive Exposure of Foreign Operations
The NSA has been intentional in increasing exposure of foreign nation-state cyber operations, aiming to alter the decision-making calculus of threat actors by disrupting their capabilities. This shift towards being more public and proactive stems from the need to engage industry partners, enhance deterrence, and pivot towards collective, collaborative cybersecurity efforts involving government, industry, and international partners.
With 2024 in full swing, cybersecurity remains a top priority in the federal technology space and beyond. In a special interview, the NSA’s Rob Joyce and Morgan Adamski sit down with CyberScoop’s Elias Groll to examine the major cybersecurity trends from last year that will continue on in 2024, the evolution of Russian hacking operations, how China is targeting U.S. critical infrastructure and how AI is changing the cybersecurity business, and more.
