On November 1, 1945, a groundbreaking magazine aimed at the Black community made its debut. The founder, John H. Johnson, faced immense challenges, including racial prejudice, during its launch. His early life experiences, especially a dramatic escape from a flood, fueled his passion for Black representation. Ebony magazine would go on to redefine cultural narratives and advertising for Black Americans, ultimately celebrating Black culture and figures, and earning its founder a dedicated day of recognition.
