Lifestyle Design with Koya Webb Expression Through Dance with Akosua Akoto
Known for her distinctive capacity to excel in the business of dance without losing the integrity of art, Akosua Akoto founded the ASA! Enterprises LLC in 2011, an umbrella company that covers one of the first international African dance fitness programs, a line of sport and dance apparel, a group fitness certification, a performing company and a mentorship program, etc. She co-founded FUZE Carnival, an African-inspired mas troupe based in Antigua that seeks to highlight the connections between the African and the Caribbean culture.
She made a groundbreaking success in the arts as she propelled the culture of Afrobeats through its origins in a time when the majority of the movers are bringing the contemporary spotlight to African dance. She introduced a new technique by harnessing her expertise in both traditional and contemporary West African dance styles. The ultimate combination of refreshing and unique by way of fusing the old and the new gave her a ticket to travel the world as she was offered to work with major recording artists as a movement coach, performer and choreographer.
Akosua graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Medicine and proceeded to attain a Master’s Degree in Human Performance and Rehabilitation from California University of Pennsylvania. She also holds multiple certifications from the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Performance Enhancement Specialist, a Corrective Exercise Specialist, a Fitness Nutrition Specialist and Personal Training.
With the body awareness of a dancer, her experiences have formed her in a way that she views and practices fitness through more innovative and effective avenues. These avenues allow her to pave the way in achieving her ultimate goal to create a space for individuals to blossom personally and professionally through authentic African culture.
