Deep dives
Use of Generative AI in Insurance Companies
Generative AI, also known as GPT or Bard Google, is a topic of interest for many insurance and technology companies. Insurers fall into three broad categories regarding the use of generative AI: those who haven't adopted it due to concerns about acceptance and regulations, those who are unsure and waiting to see what others do, and those actively using it in their workflows. Extracting information from emails is one valuable use case for generative AI, as it helps streamline processes and automate tasks like claims automation and data extraction. Despite the hype, insurance companies are cautious and interested in practical applications of generative AI.
Examples of Generative AI Adoption in the Insurance Industry
Several insurance companies have started exploring and implementing generative AI in their operations. AXA, in collaboration with Microsoft, is developing a generative AI service to benefit its employees, enabling tasks like text summarization, translation, and image correction. Traveler's CEO has expressed the company's focus on creating competitive advantages through generative AI, with plans to invest over $1.5 billion in technology by 2023. Other companies, such as Mapfre, Sing Life, HDFC Oga, and Modern Life, are also actively leveraging generative AI to enhance their offerings, streamline processes, and improve customer experiences.
Upcoming Events and Industry Perspectives on Generative AI
In the insurance industry, there is growing interest in discussing the future applications of generative AI. An upcoming evening event in London, sponsored by Cytora, will explore the future of underwriting and the benefits of generative AI. Technology companies like Send Technology, Eigen Technology, and Future Processing are introducing gen AI-powered solutions to enhance data extraction, document processing, and consumer experiences. Consumer demand for generative AI is increasing, while concerns about cyber attacks and data privacy are being raised. Insurers are also considering the right time to develop new AI-based products. Stay tuned for more updates and insights in the upcoming newsletter.
