Domestic Violence and Pet-Friendly Shelters

Many survivors of domestic abuse face a significant barrier due to their inability to bring their pets with them when seeking shelter. This issue is highlighted by the fact that nearly half of survivors delay leaving abusive situations for this reason. The Leash Purple Project has been introduced to address this problem by helping to create more pet-friendly domestic violence shelters across the country. By allowing survivors to escape violence alongside their pets, this initiative supports healing for both the individuals and their animals.
