

139. SHORTS: How do shares make money?
Advocates frame them as a sensible way to build your wealth (provided you understand the risks involved). Critics simplify them as a speculative venture akin to gambling. But while they have both fans and detractors, most people agree: shares are intended to make money.
So… how does that work, exactly? When investors own high-performing shares, do they earn money via passive income? Or are they simply aiming to sell them for a higher price than they paid? OR does it depend on the shares – and if so, how do you know which is which?
