Katra Ropeway Project and Its Significance

The Katra ropeway project aims to facilitate the 14-kilometer trek to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, significantly reducing travel time from roughly six to seven hours to under one hour. This infrastructure, anticipated to be operational by December 2026, is designed to manage the increasing number of pilgrims, which currently ranges from 25,000 to 30,000 daily. With a capacity to transport 1,000 people per hour, the ropeway intends to alleviate congestion on the narrow trekking paths and enhance the overall pilgrimage experience. Additionally, it promises to stimulate local tourism and businesses by allowing quicker return trips for pilgrims, encouraging them to explore nearby attractions after their visit.
