This week, the Peaches are joined by Ellen Wirshup, Portland’s very own Narcan Lady and founder of Project Red Initiative, which aims to reduce fentanyl overdose deaths by making free Narcan widely available. Despite the seriousness of her job, Ellen keeps the gals laughing the whole episode while explaining what Narcan is, how it works, when to use it, and why it’s so important to keep it on hand. They touch on everything, from Big Pharma to abstinence-only education to shaving down Trazadone pills to make them look like passable replacements for mom’s Oxy. Ellen also explains how it will benefit us all to learn to treat people who use drugs with less of a fear-based attitude, and to try and come from a place of love and understanding instead. Finally, Ellen busts the myth that people are putting fentanyl in candy once and for all (drugs are expensive)!!
