Data science and visualization is currently the most sought after and highest paying field there is.  Our society is increasingly dependent on numbers and data, which has made two particular areas increasingly complex. There is the data that we all generate ourselves that now needs to be considered, its uses, value, and privacy, and secondly, in our information age, it is becoming ever more important to be data literate and know how to consume it and what to trust.
