She has a PhD in molecular biology from Princeton University, and is a true expert on the topic of light. In our show, she emphasizes the need for both dark darkness at night and bright light from the sun during the day. She explains how different frequencies of light interact with our bodies and the effects they have. Dr. Cowan also provides recommendations for optimizing light exposure, such as using blue-blocking glasses, blocking indicator lights in the sleeping environment, and spending time outside in nature.
