While filming John Woo's first movie in America, Russell Carpenter got a call from James Cameron asking to meet him for lunch. He left that lunch with a job, director of cinematography on True Lies, the most expensive film ever made at that point. This was the beginning of multi-decade long relationship, that has led to Russell working on four of Cameron's films, including Titanic which netted him an Oscar.
