The Task of the Modern Educator and Misconceptions About God
The task of the modern educator is not to cut down jungles but to irrigate deserts. C.S. Lewis's quote highlights the misconception that our souls are like wild jungles in need of trimming. Contrary to this view, our souls are dry desert wastelands in need of living water. God doesn't aim to cut us down but to offer us life-giving water to revive our souls and fulfill our deepest needs.
The Glory of God and His Manifestation Through Radical Grace
The glory of God is the overarching goal of human history and is displayed through mercy, grace, patience, and love. While many view God's glory in terms of power and might, its essence lies in mercy and grace. Christianity uniquely emphasizes God's glory in His mercy and grace, portraying Him as a loving Father who adopts, a Son who redeems, and a Spirit who seals believers.
Responding to Radical Grace with Extravagant Worship
Radical grace, symbolized by redemption, forgiveness, and abundance, calls for an extravagant response in worship. Rejoicing in God's grace leads to outward expressions of worship and praise. Paul's letter to the Ephesians exemplifies celebrating God's grace through praise and service. Worshiping God, who is merciful and gracious, completes our enjoyment of His love.
Living in Service of the Glory of God
Living for the glory of God means serving Him wholeheartedly in all aspects of life. Our existence is designed to glorify God, and His glory is not in conflict with our joy but enhances it. By responding to God's radical grace with worship and service, we align ourselves with His overarching goal of displaying His glory in our lives.
This week we will be kicking off a brand new series that takes a closer look at the three theological anchors of Passion City Church DC. Landon Lacy will start us out by giving us an overview of the glory of God, radical grace, and extravagant worship that define who we are as a people in this city.
