This week I will be breaking down the final part, Part 5, of The Body Keeps The Score By Bessel Van Der Kolk, which centers on treatments (pages 205-358).
If you haven’t felt comfortable reading this book/feel it may be too triggering for you, I would highly suggest reading part 5. This part centers on treatment and hope. It gives a lot of beneficial resources and scientific evidence behind methods of treatment and the pathway to recovery. This chapter does include stories of violence and trauma, so beware. I have included page numbers above of especially graphic depictions of trauma.

Disclaimer: I did not write this book nor am I claiming these ideas as my own. This book was written by Dr. Bessel Van Der Kolk & is entirely his. I am breaking it down because of the sheer density of the material. I feel like I am in a space where I have the emotional and mental capacity to read this, but I wish I had the information inside earlier – I just didn’t have the space to consume it yet. So I am hoping that my breaking down the material will help others gain the knowledge without having to expel as much energy. I will be quoting Van Der Kolk but will make it clear when I do so. I will also be linking the link to purchase the book – and I highly suggest you do. As much as I will be reviewing the highlights, there is so much I won’t be able to cover that is so beneficial for trauma survivors. This book is truly the Bible for trauma recovery.
This book is very very in depth. It reads like a textbook. It also has no trigger warnings, nor does it warn the reader when things like rape or violence will be described. If that is something that is triggering for you, I would be careful about reading it firsthand.
