The pharmaceutical industry in America has grown its profits massively in recent years, but if you think executives are passing this along to the consumer, think again. Americans are having to pay twice as much, three times as much — 15 times as much — for the same medicines Big Pharma sells to others around the world. Why is that? Part of the reason is — they can. They've taken full advantage of the free market this country provides, and have spent their profits more on marketing and advertising than on lowering prescription costs. J.D.
