The Creation of the Anthology

A collection of 40 pieces of fiction and memoir by lesbian writers titled 'Dispatches from Lesbian America' was developed over three years, with contributions primarily from U.S.-based lesbian writers. The project aimed to provide a platform for lesbian voices in literature, which are increasingly marginalized in mainstream publishing. Editors sought to include a diverse array of contributors, ultimately selecting 43 writers, including three from outside the U.S. This anthology emerged out of a shared need for representation and a desire to showcase non-erotic lesbian narratives, filling a gap left by the decline of lesbian-focused publications.
