Transitioning to Slow Fashion with Allison Zilinek
Of the over 100 billion new clothes produced each year, around 92 million tons of these items will end up in a landfill. Billions of these clothing items contain harmful chemicals, including bisphenols, PFAS, and heavy metals, among others. As these clothes break down, they contribute to microplastic pollution, which can harm marine life and eventually enter our food chain. The rapid production of high-volume, low-cost clothing is known as fast fashion and is regularly available on SHEIN, Amazon, and in malls. Thankfully, there’s been a growing movement to help combat the environmental and health concerns associated with fast fashion. This grassroots initiative is known as slow fashion. Transitioning to a slow fashion lifestyle can take some time, which is why we’re so glad to speak on IG Live with Allison Zilinek, the Imperfect Environmentalist.
