Deep dives
The inception story of Statsig and the motivation behind its creation
Statsig was founded by VG Raji, who previously worked at Facebook for 10 years. Raji was inspired by the powerful engineering culture at Facebook, fueled by a wide range of tools available to engineers. He wanted to distill this engineering culture and make it accessible to other companies, helping them ship products faster and smarter. Statsig's goal is to provide a unified platform for feature flagging, experimentation, and analytics, enabling companies of all sizes to build and ship products quickly while making data-informed decisions.
The need for sophisticated tools beyond big companies
Building sophisticated tools like those available at big companies such as Facebook, Google, and Airbnb requires significant investment. Not every company has the resources to develop such tools in-house. This leaves most companies without access to the same level of sophistication when it comes to engineering tools. Statsig aims to bridge this gap by bringing the advanced tools and sophistication outside of these big companies, making them accessible to a wider range of companies.
How Ask UI helps automate user interface tasks
Ask UI is a platform that aims to automate user interface tasks by bridging the gap between being a programmer and being able to describe tasks in natural language. Users can interact with user interfaces by giving natural language instructions, automating repetitive tasks, and lowering the barrier to automation for non-technical individuals. Ask UI uses AI technology to understand visual information through screenshots and connects it with natural language inputs to perform tasks on various platforms.
Challenges and future possibilities for Ask UI
One of the main challenges faced by Ask UI is to speed up the development process while ensuring common understanding among the team and aligning research and design goals. Technical challenges can be overcome with knowledge and research, but streamlining the development process remains a priority. In the future, Ask UI envisions bringing all kinds of data inside the models, including text and visual data. The goal is to enable automation even for complex tasks like following software manuals or performing operating system interactions automatically.
Dominik Klotz from askui joins Daniel and Chris to discuss the automation of UI, and how AI empowers them to automate any use case on any operating system. Along the way, the trio explore various approaches and the integration of generative AI, large language models, and computer vision.
