Charles is a Senior Lecturer in Political and Social Thought at the School of Politics and International Relations, University of Kent, and the author of the recent books: Positive Atheism: Bayle, Meslier, d'Holbach, Diderot (Edinburgh University Press) and The Gilets Jaunes and the New Social Contract (Bristol University Press).
