MLB announces expanded playoffs on Opening Day... what?

Today's word of the day 'sixteen' as in MLB is expanding the postseason to 16 teams instead of 10 teams. Why is this happening? Why did they impose this on Opening Day? Who benefits and who doesn't (0:06)? Like I had told you all on Monday - the Toronto Blue Jays will play its season in Buffalo. Not in Pittsburgh. Not in Baltimore (12:04).
