Teacher Talks: How to improve the quality of listening in your classroom
This episode is this week's 'Teacher Talk': a fifteen minute talk that explores an important aspect of classroom practice, with practical strategies for implementing it in your classroom.
This talk explores what we can do to improve the quality of listening in classrooms. It explores why it is important that we focus on listening skills, before looking at ways in which we can develop it. That improvement of listening is broken down into two parts: how we role model curiosity and effective listening, and how we proactively teach our students to listen intently.
My book 'Talking to Teenagers: A guide to skillful classroom communication', explores the ideas in the talk in more detail.
I hope you find it helpful and supportive in your classroom. Any feedback on how to improve these talks, or areas you would like me to explore, is always much appreciated. Please contact me on Twitter @teachgratitude1.
