The logistics team was not impressed, but accounting and procurement were even less impressed. The reporting and auditing required for this large amount of inventory was time-consuming and complicated. However, overall, the team was still glad they did it and Keith was thrilled with the outcome.
The plan for the inventory is to keep it in stock and sell it on the online store. While some items may not be in high demand, there is still interest in the unique PC items. The items will be sold at a higher price than originally paid for.
Linus passed by a computer store and wondered how they managed to stay in business. The idea of buying the entire stock and clearing it out sprang to mind, leading to the creation of the iconic computer store video.
Linus Media Group has made the difficult decision to cancel LTX 2024 due to several reasons. Firstly, the company's core focus is not on events, and running large-scale events requires well-established processes and workflows. Secondly, the crunch and strain on the team leading up to the event is significant. Thirdly, while LTX 2023 was profitable, there is an opportunity cost in terms of time, resources, and team well-being. Finally, there are other community engagement opportunities that may be more exciting and less stressful. However, Linus Media Group will continue to host Whale Land events, aiming for more frequent gatherings of 200 to 300 attendees, offering a more personal and enjoyable experience.
The podcast episode discusses various topics, including the decision to continue or cancel LTX, the challenges of making the convention profitable, and the potential of Whale Land as an alternative. The hosts also talk about their experiences and challenges during recent video shoots, as well as tech leaks and their impact. They touch on the canceled video projects, their favorite LTT store merchandise, and the changes and improvements observed since the break. The episode ends with tech advice on cooling without a pool and the possibility of selling 3D printed LTT-themed products on the store.
