Deep dives
Overview of ACR Convergence 2024
ACR Convergence 2024 is set to take place in Washington, D.C., from November 14th to 19th, showcasing a blend of cutting-edge science and extensive networking opportunities. The meeting aims to enhance the educational experience by incorporating feedback from previous attendees and adapting to the changes brought on by the post-pandemic era. Key activities include engaging sessions, a revamped networking lounge, and initiatives like the Knowledge Bowl and the Image Competition. The committee emphasizes its mission to improve the lives of patients with rheumatic diseases, positioning the meeting as a premier international platform for rheumatology professionals.
Innovative Educational Focus
The planning committee is dedicated to improving the educational content of the meeting, including enhancing interactivity in sessions. A group of educators known as the Quilt Group has been established to incorporate active learning principles, urging attendees to reflect on what they learn and apply it to their practice. This year's assessment tools after sessions will prompt attendees to identify key takeaways and reflections rather than simply rate sessions. Additionally, the allotted time for speakers has been extended to foster depth of discussion, ensuring a more meaningful learning experience.
Revised Networking Opportunities
Networking remains a centerpiece of ACR Convergence 2024, with an emphasis on interaction beyond traditional lectures. The informal networking lounge will return with more planned activities, allowing attendees to connect over shared professional interests and experiences. Successful features from the previous year, such as casual meet-and-greet events and organized discussions among different rheumatology groups, will be expanded. The return of 'meet the editors' sessions is also projected to enhance engagement, giving participants the chance to discuss their work with leaders in their field.
Accessibility and Global Engagement Initiatives
To promote inclusivity, especially for the international rheumatology community, ACR has implemented several initiatives, including grants to assist international attendees. Although live streaming will no longer be available, recorded sessions will be offered on an on-demand basis, allowing broader access to content for those unable to attend. The Global Engagement Committee plays a pivotal role, aiming to strengthen the global network of rheumatology professionals through events like the Global Summit and fostering connections among attendees. These efforts highlight the meeting's commitment to not only advancing science but also creating a supportive and collaborative community.
