

"Colorful Conservatism" w/Casey Flores, President Log Cabin Republicans, Richmond
Despite what you’ve heard, did you know that the Republican Party has a caucus of folks with a proud history of fighting to build a stronger, more inclusive Republican Party? LGBT Republicans and straight allies have chosen to transform the GOP from the inside, working to overcome the forces of exclusion and intolerance with a group called the Log Cabin Republicans.
This is the third installment in our four-part pride month series called, “Be Curious, Not Judgmental”.
In this episode Will and Josh speak with Casey Flores, the Log Cabin Republican President of the Richmond, Virginia chapter. They discuss what it’s like being a member of the Republican Party, especially when there are numerous instances that would make this membership counterintuitive. The way that Casey explains it, is that their membership actually helps the broader LGBT community. The guys then pivot to discussions about the "Parental Rights in Education", colloquially known as the “Don’t Say Gay” Bill, and how the Log Cabin Republicans actually helped craft some of the language.
The Log Cabin Republicans have been around for a long time, and Casey helps explain its origins. You might be surprised to learn about which President is linked to its founding!

The name of the organization is a reference to the first Republican President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, who was born in a Log Cabin. President Lincoln built the Republican Party on the principles of liberty and equality under the law. The party should return to its roots.
