Recent data reveals a significant increase in the number of data requests fulfilled by Telegram for law enforcement agencies. Following the arrest of CEO Pavel Durov, which was tied to the company's previous refusal to provide user data regarding a child exploitation investigation, Telegram's stance on handling abuse reports has seemingly softened. Specifically, the messaging platform complied with U.S. authorities on 900 occasions throughout 2024, impacting over 2,200 users, a stark contrast to its previous compliance with only 14 requests affecting 108 users for the same year. Additionally, Indian authorities received user data on 14,641 occasions, highlighting a broader trend towards greater transparency and cooperation with governmental demands.
