India's Bid to Host 2036 Olympics
India has proposed a 6,000 crore rupees master plan to construct a 300-acre sports and cliff complex in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, which aims to host the 2036 Olympics. The master plan includes six new stadiums, including a football stadium with a capacity of 53,000, an aquatic center with a capacity of 12,000 for swimming, and a tennis center with a capacity of 15,000. The plan also prioritizes sustainability, with the enclave being powered by renewable energy and designed for long-term usage and a legacy beyond the games. India plans to bid for hosting other multi-sport events as well.
Pratham Mantri Surya Deochna: Expanding Solar Energy in India
The Pratham Mantri Surya Deochna, announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to install rooftop solar systems on one crore houses in India, increasing the use of solar energy and helping the country become self-reliant. India has a huge potential for solar energy, with over 600 gigawatts of potential capacity. Although India is behind its target of 40 gigawatts of rooftop solar by 2022, this new scheme seeks to accelerate the process. Solar energy initiatives have been implemented worldwide, as it is a readily available and cleaner source of energy. Harnessing solar energy helps meet India's energy needs and aligns with its climate change commitments.
New Policy to Improve Physical Fitness in the Indian Army
The Indian Army has implemented a new policy to address declining physical standards among officers and combat lifestyle diseases. The policy introduces additional tests, such as a 10-kilometer speed march and a 32-kilometer route march, alongside existing tests. Overweight personnel who do not show improvement within 30 days may face punitive actions. A Brigadier rank officer will now preside over the tests to bring more scrutiny to the process. The aim is to have a fit and flab-free Army, and the new fitness protocol will be linked to the officers' annual confidential report.
