The podcast explores the tendency to idolize successful individuals and proposes a biblical approach of attributing success to God rather than elevating the person.

Deep dives
Seeing success as a reflection of God's goodness
Instead of elevating successful individuals and modeling their behavior, it is more beneficial to see their success as a reflection of God's goodness and work in their lives. By attributing the good to God rather than the person, it allows for a healthier and more biblical approach. Examining how God is working through them encourages a closer relationship with God and prevents the tendency to elevate individuals as heroes.
Learning from success by understanding God's work
Rather than simply modeling the tactical and practical actions of successful individuals, it is important to learn from their success by understanding and learning from what God is doing in their lives. This perspective shifts the focus from attributing success solely to the individual to recognizing and appreciating how God is at work in their situation. By getting closer to God and modeling what He is doing, one is set up for success and avoids the mistakes of elevating individuals as heroes.
One thing I recently noticed a lot of people doing (including myself) is that when we see someone do or achieve something great, we immediately elevate that person’s status in our mind.
But that frequently sets us up for failure.
Why?
Because that act of success is typically a result of a focused set of actions…yet we tend to elevate ALL actions of the individual and try to model those - even ones that have nothing to do with their success.
In this way, we make people “heroes” who really should be heroes.
I go into depth about a better way to think about this in today’s podcast episode.
